Before joining the \u00d6ko-Institut he was researcher and coordinator at the Interdisciplinary Research Group Science Technology and Security (IANUS) at Technische Universit\u00e4t Darmstadt in Germany and a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), Stanford University from 2009-2011. \r\nMatthias holds a PhD in physics from Technische Universit\u00e4t Darmstadt.
